The Board has
hosted three international seminars on specific topics related its major
projects. The fundamental intent of the seminars was to share initial
work products with scholars, business leaders, and consumers.
- In July 1998 a research seminar was held at the University of Bergen
(Norway). The Board presented the survey data for the new Instructional
Designer competencies and to facilitated discussion on the broader concept
of Performance Improvement and its impact on designers, instructors,
and training managers.
- In June 1999 the Board hosted a seminar in Estes Park, Colorado. The
discussions with scholars, business professionals and consumers provided
the foundation for the task of revising the competencies and performance
statements for training managers.
- In June 2000 The University of Lancaster (England) hosted a Board
seminar that examined the issues related to competencies for on-line
instructors. There were also discussions about assessing professional
competence, standard setting and certification. The following paper
discusses findings from the seminar: Goodyear, P., Salmon, G., Spector,
M., & Tickner, S. (2001). Competencies for online teaching. Educational
